Lapland | Wilderness & the Fjords two-centre Holiday |Northern Lights

A two-centre short break journeying through the Arctic wilderness drawn by your own team of dogs

Combine the thrill of journeying through the Arctic wilderness drawn by your own team of dogs, with an opportunity to explore a lively and fashionable Scandinavian city. Designed for people who really want to try an outdoor adventure in Europe's last unspoiled wilderness - travelling by husky is a tradition that stretches back for 4,000 years and is one of the most memorable of Arctic experiences. Take care of your own team of dogs and help to prepare meals by an open fire and spend one night in the heart of the forest sleeping in a simple wilderness cabin. Return to the world of 'civilisation' with a stay in Tromso.

Travel period January through March

4 NIGHT ITINERARY
Day 1:
Your flight leaves Gatwick around 2000, arriving in Tromso at around 0040, followed by a transfer to Karesuando in Finnish Lapland. arriving at the Davvi Arctic Lodge at around 0600. Room allocations will be completed during your journey, allowing for a swift check-in and straight to bed!

Day 2:
After breakfast, you are provided with your included all-in-one thermal suits and boots. Temperatures in this part of Lapland can fall as low as -35C in winter and your thermal suit and boots are an essential part of your short break package. Please note that hats, scarves and gloves are also necessary. Next you will meet the dogs and receive instruction on their care and how to handle the sled before departing on your expedition. Only the swish of the sleds runners breaking through the snow will disturb the profound silence of the wilderness and you will quickly realise how very far behind you have left the hustle and bustle of everyday life. You will spend the majority of the day with the dogs, including several hours travelling to a wilderness cabin. Your first priority is to care for your hard-working dogs. You will want to unharness them and settle them down, providing them with a well-deserved meal.

Please note that wilderness cabins are, by their very nature, basic. There is no electricity or running water. Facilities are basic, with bunk beds and an outside toilet. Light is provided by candles. You must be prepared to share the cabin with other members of your group. As a group, you all help cook supper on the cabin's wood burning stove before turning in for the night in sleeping bags you have carried with you on your expedition.

Day 3:
In the morning, everybody takes care of their own dogs, again ensuring they are well fed and watered before being harnessed up again. Breakfast is prepared together and you set out on the second leg of your adventure, returning in the late afternoon to the Davvi Arctic Lodge, where dinner will be especially welcome!

Day 4:
After breakfast, you make the return journey to Tromso, arriving at around 1430, when you will have a short walking tour of this remarkable city, with its colourful centre, rich in Arctic history. You visit the Polaria museum and aquarium, where the main attraction is the bearded seals. Your hotel is the three-star Clarion Collection Hotel With, by the waterside, where you'll enjoy dinner. You may venture into town (walking distance) where there are numerous bars. Alternatively, you may decide to upgrade to another of our hotels, where you'll have the option either to eat in your hotel's restaurant (at extra cost) or immerse yourself even further in Tromso's lively nightlife.

Day 5:
You check out from your hotel early at 0530 for your 0630 return flight to the UK, arriving at around 0910 UK time.
